All surgeries at EyeCare 20/20 are performed by our accomplished LASIK surgeon and medical director, Cary M. Silverman, M.D. In order to provide the most comprehensive vision care possible, Dr. Silverman works with a team of physicians to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Each doctor is an innovator in the fields of optometry and ophthalmology, and their contributions to our East Hanover practice in northern New Jersey have enhanced the quality of care we provide.
Nicholas Xanthos, O.D. – Therapeutic Optometrist
Nicholas Xanthos, O.D., is a 2000 graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his optometric residency in Ocular Disease at Omni Eye Service. Dr. Xanthos is a member of the American Optometric Society and the New Jersey Optometric Society.
Dr. Xanthos specializes in a wide range of eye care needs including, routine eye care, post-operative eye care, and contact lenses.
Adrian Jachens, M.D.- Refractive and Cataract Surgery
Adrian W. Jachens, M.D., born and raised in New Jersey, graduated from Rutgers – New Jersey Medical School where he completed his doctorate of medicine and received several prestigious scholarships. He completed his ophthalmology residency at New York Medical College where he was selected to serve as chief resident his final year. Afterwards, he completed a sub-specialty fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Texas – Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Dr. Jachens is board certified and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology. He has lectured at international conferences as well as published articles in various medical journals.
Dr. Jachens specializes in comprehensive eye care, including cataract and laser refractive surgery. He performs full and partial thickness corneal transplants, and handles complex corneal and ocular surface diseases such as infections and dry eye syndrome. He enjoys skiing, volleyball and traveling with his wife and son.
Benjamin D. Freilich, M.D.- Diseases and Surgery of the Retina, Macula and Vitreous
Benjamin D. Freilich, M.D., F.A.C.S., is board certified in ophthalmology and specialty-trained in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous. His training includes a fellowship in retina surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and The Schepens Eye Research Institute at Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Dr. Freilich received his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine in 1989 and a B.S. from the University of Chicago in 1985.
He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and licensed in New York and New Jersey. His special interests include treatment and management of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, retinal vascular occlusions, as well as other retinal and vitreous diseases.
Michael J. Richard, M.D.- Ophthalmic Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery
Michael J. Richard, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in Oculofacial Plastic Surgery. Dr. Richard has over 10 years of experience focusing on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the upper and lower eyelids and face.
Dr. Richard joins Eye Care 20/20 from one of the most prestigious eye centers in the nation, Duke Eye Center in Durham, North Carolina.
While at Duke Eye Center, Dr. Richard practiced the latest diagnostic, medical, and surgical techniques in eye research and care today. During his time at Duke, Dr. Richard was an Assistant Professor with appointments in both the Department of Ophthalmology and the Department of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Richard has written dozens of publications on the latest research and advances in eye care and has lectured around the world.
Dr. Richard has expertise in a broad range of medical and surgical conditions, including cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery, blepharospasm, orbital tumors, tear duct surgery, skin cancers, ocular surface cancer, thyroid eye disease, and orbital and facial trauma.
Dr. Richard is also a highly skilled cosmetic surgeon who performs both surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures using lasers, injectable fillers, and neuromodulators. These include laser skin resurfacing, Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Voluma, Juvederm, Restylane, Sculptra, Kybella, Belotero, and Radiesse.
Dr. Richard is actively involved in international philanthropic work as an affiliate of the Himalayan Cataract Project (http://www.cureblindness.org). He has traveled to Nepal, Ethiopia, and Cuba to provide medical care and training to local ophthalmologists.
Martin E. Corwin, M.D., Emeritus (RETIRED)
Martin E. Corwin, M.D., Emeritus, joins EyeCare 20/20 after having his private practice in Livingston, New Jersey since 1963. Dr. Corwin is a graduate of New York Downstate Medical School, Brooklyn New York and completed his ophthalmology residency at Kings County Medical Center, Brooklyn. Dr. Corwin is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a member of the American Board of Ophthalmology, the Essex County Medical Society, and the Medical Society of New Jersey.
Over the past 40 years, Dr. Corwin has maintained a standard of providing state-of-the-art eye care, combined with the highest quality of personalized service.
