OCLI Participating in Vision Harvest 2015 by Providing Free Cataract Surgery

October 20, 2015

This year, in conjunction with River Drive Surgery and Laser Center and our new partner, AmSurg, we here at OCLI will be continuing our annual charity event, Vision Harvest. The event is organized each year in an effort to combat something that millions of Americans face: cataracts.

Cataracts are a debilitating affliction where the lenses in your eyes become less flexible, more opaque, and grow thicker over time, severely limiting your eyesight. Your vision can become clouded, blurred, or dimmed. You may be unable to see at night, only able to see faded colors, and suffer double vision.

Without proper eyesight, your quality of life can diminish significantly. The cause of cataracts is largely unknown, but everyone is affected by them as they grow older, to a differing degree. As one of the most common vision problems in the world, you or someone you know could be severely affected.

Because millions of Americans are and will be affected by cataracts, our nonprofit organization, Vision Harvest, has the goal of offering free cataract surgery every year for those who need it most. Over the past six years, our annual charity event has been able to provide free cataract surgery that changed the lives of over 200 patients.

Cataract surgery can be out of reach for some, especially if you do not have health insurance and are unable to pay for it. The Vision Harvest team of surgeons wishes to help those who would otherwise be forced to live with the disease.

The financial and residential thresholds set for qualifying for this free surgery are as follows:

  • You must earn less than 2 times the national poverty level.
  • You cannot have health insurance of any kind.
  • You must be able to provide financial documents and tax returns that support your claims.
  • You must have a full time residence in the United States. Citizenship is not required.

On Friday, October 30th, the participating Vision Harvest surgeons will hold the annual charity event at their respective offices in New Jersey. Patients will receive eye examinations, necessary testing performed before the date of the event, medications, surgery, and post-op care once the procedure has been completed – all free of charge.

The team involved every year in providing this service knows that no one should live with cataracts, and that’s why they strive to do everything they can to help those who suffer from them. A lot goes into managing and operating this charity, and as a non-profit 501 c3, Vision Harvest can accept donations that allow it to continue in its goals of providing these life changing vision surgeries.

If you would like to provide those less fortunate with the surgery they need to continue living life with the gift of sight, make a donation to Vision Harvest today.

For more information, call 973-200-8250 to set up a free evaluation to determine if you could be eligible for this free surgery. You can also visit Vision Harvest on the web and learn more about our mission.
