Giving Thanks For Another Great Year at OCLI

November 23, 2016

Thanksgiving is almost upon us, and we thought it would be appropriate to look back at all the things we’re thankful for, as well as looking forward and talking about what we’re excited to see happening in the future.

We’re always thankful for the opportunity to help people improve or regain their eyesight. It’s a privilege and a blessing to be in a position to make such a difference in someone’s life.

That’s why we’re so thankful for all the wonderful new technology that’s come our way this past year. New tech like the KAMRA inlay and the amazing new Raindrop inlay.

Our new FS200 femtosecond laser, IOLMaster700, and all the other improvements and technology that we’ve incorporated into the office really make us happy, because with them we’re better able to serve our patients.

And the work really is about helping people, at the end of the day. That’s why we’re happy to announce another year’s successful completion of our annual charity event, Vision Harvest. Vision Harvest is one of the ways we try to give back to our community. The event is organized each year in an effort to help those who are suffering from cataracts, but for whom cataract surgery is normally too expensive.

Without health insurance, cataract surgery is simply out of reach for many people who are already struggling to make ends meet.

As cataracts continue to grow over time, this affliction can quickly become more than just a hassle for those who suffer from them. Cataracts are one of the most common vision problems in the world, and everyone will be affected by them to some degree as they grow older. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford cataract surgery, and that’s why we’ve continued our annual Harvest Vision charity. Through the charity, over the past seven years we’ve been able to provide free cataract surgery to over 200 patients in need, and we changed even more lives this year.

Here are the guidelines for qualifying for cataract surgery through the charity.

  • Recipients’ income must be less than twice the national poverty line.
  • They cannot have any kind of health insurance.
  • They must be able to support these claims through financial documents and tax returns.
  • They must be a full-time resident of the United States. Citizenship is not a requirement.

We know firsthand how cataracts can affect a person’s life, and we believe no one should have to suffer with them unnecessarily. Managing and operating the charity does take a lot of work, so please consider donating if you have the means. You’ll be helping to provide someone with the life-changing gift of clear vision.

When we sit down at the dinner table this Thanksgiving, let’s remember to count our blessings and enjoy the good company of friends and family. If you’d like to learn more about Vision Harvest, visit our website and check out more about our mission.
