Doc Recommends—Best New Jersey Christmas Events

December 15, 2016

It’s that time of year again, and all through the house, well, everyone’s stirring because they’re bored and want to go do something fun. It’s understandable. You can’t cuddle up by the fire every night without your family getting a little antsy. Luckily, there’s plenty to do in New Jersey during the holiday season. So check out some of these great Christmas events, and everyone can get out from under the blankets and stretch their legs a bit.

Festival of Trees “Deck the Halls”- Dec. 3-10th

Come to the Barn at Highlands Ridge Park in Chester, and experience the Festival of Trees for yourself. You’ll see holiday trees decorated in a variety of styles by local families, organizations, and businesses. Most of the trees are auctioned off via silent auction during the week, so pick your favorite tree and make a bid. There will also be live music to serenade you and your family as you enjoy touring all the different trees.

The North Pole Express- Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through December 18th (Except the 16th)

Take this fun family train ride in Flemington, and you just might end up at the North Pole! Santa and Mrs. Claus will be waiting to greet you and your little ones, along with singing elves, hot cocoa, and so much more. All the trains depart from Flemington Station, and travel rain or shine. You’ll want to put aside about two hours for this magical trip to the North Pole Station.

The Christmas Light Show- Dec. 10-11, 17th

Come on down to Wall Township, and you’ll experience a Christmas tradition on the Jersey Shore. The light show includes pyrotechnics and fog, so you’re sure to keep everyone entertained while you’re there. The event is free, and features free food and drink, but you may want to join in the Christmas spirit and make a donation while you’re there. Remember to dress warm, bring a flashlight, and arrive 35-45 minutes early!

The Annual Christmas Delaware River Crossing Reenactments- Dec. 11th

This annual tradition celebrates the historic crossing of the Delaware by George Washington on Christmas Day in 1776. The crossing resulted in the defeat of Hessian troops in the Battle of Trenton, and it’s a major part of Revolutionary War history. This reenactment will take place at Washington Crossing, PA, and it’s a sight to behold.

Jenkinson’s Aquarium Sea of Lights Holiday Festival- December 18-19th, 26-28th

Come see the Jenkinson’s Aquarium lit up with festive decorations this holiday season. There will be arts and crafts, face painting, a scuba diving Santa, and special guests from animated movies. Where else are you going to see Santa in scuba gear?
